May 2006 - Events in Castle Rock
In May, the local Rotary club sponsors the annual Ducky Derby and StreetFest, where thousands of small yellow rubber ducks will swim through the town on Plum Creek. Event Details: Town seeks utility customers to become “Water Wiser”
May 2006 Dates
For the fourth year, the Town of Castle Rock is hosting its popular workshops to help Castle Rock customers become “Water Wiser.”
Town staff teach workshop attendees about Castle Rock’s water supply, water system, efficient irrigation methods and fundamentals of water conservation with a focus on landscaping practices. Residents completing the workshop earn the Town’s “Water Wiser” designation. The Town then monitors participants’ water use as part of an ongoing study to determine the effectiveness of education on water conservation practices. The program is continuously improved, so even residents who have attended previously are encouraged to come again.
The Town is offering a variety of dates and times to become “Water Wiser.”
Thursday, May 4 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Saturday, May 6 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Wednesday, May 10 from 1 to 4 p.m.
Similar to other Front Range communities, Castle Rock draws its water from non-renewable aquifers. Conservation is key to the Town’s long-term water solution - decreasing average water use by a minimum of 18 percent will save water customers an estimated $100 million over the next 30 to 50 years.
Currently, about 50 percent of all water used in the town is applied to landscapes during the summer. Proper soil preparation and efficient irrigation alone can reduce household water consumption by 20 percent or more. Using Xeriscape fundamentals, including low water use plant material, efficient irrigation techniques and technology-based equipment, can further conserve water.
Because “Water Wiser” graduates have greater knowledge about irrigation practices, they are exempt from the mandatory Castle Rock watering schedule.
The Water Wiser workshop is free, but reservations are required. For class locations and to register, call the Utilities Department, 720-733-6000.
Starts: 1:00 PM
Ends: 4:00 PM
Location: Town Hall Council Chambers
100 North Wilcox Street
Castle Rock, CO 80104
