Business Review: Medved Ford

Buying a car is always a hassle. Either dealing about the price for the new car or the trade-in or even the waiting after a deal has been agreed on - it's a pain. Why does it take so long to do the paperwork before you can drive off the lot with your new car? Everything is computerized nowadays and it still takes so much time to buy a car. When we refinanced our mortgage in 2004 it was much less painful compared to the new car we bought last year.

Anyway - we contacted Medved sales at their Ford division via phone to inquire about their stock inventory. Sales was very responsive and so we drove down to Medved. Medved in Castle Rock is located right next to Interstate 25 just on the south end of Castle Rock. We walked into the building asking for the sales rep we had talked to on the phone and met him after a just a few minutes waiting.

We were walked to our vehicle of choice and went for a test drive. We liked the vehicle (F-150 Pickup Truck) and decided to start the negotiations. We quickly got a good deal on the new car, but got stuck on a very low offer for the trade-in (Dodge Grand Caravan Mini-van). As we really wanted to get rid off the mini-van we decided to take the loss and get into a new vehicle. If we would have had more time we would have sold the mini-van first, but in our situation at that time this was not an option. We were a little upset about the low offer and the dealer not willing to go higher as Medved consistently advertises with the best price offers for trade-ins. I guess it is just advertising hype and not backed up by actual deals.

It took about 3.5 hours for the paperwork to be completed. The actual signing of the contract and the other documents took about 15-20 minutes. As expected there was another sales pitch to buy expensive warranties and service contracts, but we were prepared enough to decline those. Then finally we were introduced to our new vehicle. We were walked through all necessary features and pieces that we would need to know to safely operate this vehicle.

Overall - buying a car is a hassle. We were glad when we left the dealership with our new truck. In the past we have bought vehicles at dealerships where the sales price was fixed or still to be negotiated. In the end it is still a painful process either way. Considering that certain pieces are same no matter where you buy, we were satisfied with the deal we got at Medved in Castle Rock. It was not our worst car buying experience, it wasn't the best either. Expertise of the staff was good and they took good care of us while waiting. We would buy a car again at Medved Ford.
